Hon. Angeline “Angie” Ioannou ’98
Distinguished Alumni Award
Hon. Angeline Ioannou, superior court judge for Connecticut, began her journey at Sacred Heart University, where she was active in the debate society, worked for The Spectrum newspaper, and supported the men’s basketball team. She credits her experience in debate, under the guidance of Professor Gary Rose, for inspiring her path to law.
After SHU, Ioannou earned her Juris Doctor from Widener University Commonwealth Law School. She practiced law in Hartford, handling complex tort and medical malpractice cases involving wrongful death and catastrophic injuries.
In January 2025, Gov. Ned Lamont nominated her to serve on the Connecticut Superior Court. Reflecting on how SHU prepared her for her professional life, Ioannou said, “These lessons pay dividends in my current position, where I am impacting the lives of Connecticut citizens, many of whom are immigrants and/or stem from challenging economic and social backgrounds.”
She currently presides over juvenile matters in Waterbury Superior Court. She and her wife, Brooke, live in West Hartford, with their family.
