SHU Recognized as a College of Distinction
Excelling in student engagement, teaching, community and outcomes earn notice
Sacred Heart University has earned national recognition from Colleges of Distinction, a website and guidebook that acknowledges higher-education institutions that meet four distinctions: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community and successful outcomes.
SHU has earned this designation for the 2022-2023 year in the following categories: Catholic, Connecticut, business, education, nursing and military support. This recognition was driven by SHU’s devotion to the undergraduate academic curriculum and student experience.
Colleges of Distinction curates a selection of top schools that are well equipped to provide a personalized education specific to students’ interests. There is an intense interviewing and vetting process throughout the academic year to reaffirm that the selected institutions strive for excellence in the four overarching distinction areas.
“We are so proud to be recognized by the Colleges of Distinction yet again,” said SHU President John J. Petillo. “To be appreciated for these merits is a true reflection on the University, the faculty, staff and the students’ devotion to thriving as a community.”
SHU’s Jack Welch College of Business & Technology, Isabelle Farrington College of Education & Human Development and Dr. Susan L. Davis, R.N., & Richard J. Henley College of Nursing were highlighted for excellence in teaching. These colleges demonstrated comprehensive curriculum and practical soft skills development. SHU also was noted for meeting the goals of blending program-specific training and real-world application.
