Contributions will support scholarships, programs and other needs

Sacred Heart University raised more than $821,000 in just 24 hours, thanks to the generosity of SHU supporters who contributed to the annual SHU Giving Day on April 27-28.

The record-breaking total came from 1,742 generous donors in 39 states and seven countries. More than 860 of these gifts came from first-time donors.

Giving days are a great opportunity to engage with SHU’s audience in a way that is dynamic and can tell the University’s unique story. This year, SHU was strategic and intentional about showcasing all its schools, programs and campus partners. By doing this, Sacred Heart was able to increase its visibility and positive community impact.

“I am proud of the Sacred Heart community for everyone’s participation in Giving Day 2022,” said Paul J. Sutera, senior vice president of University advancement. “It is being characterized as the most successful to date, in terms of philanthropic investment and donors. Yet, the true excitement, for me, is the entire community—alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends—showing their SHU pride. The impact will resonate across the campus with all six colleges, our affiliate partners, the SHU Community Theatre, SHU Discovery Museum & Planetarium, Horizons at SHU, WSHU Radio and all 33 NCAA DI teams. Thank you to the Sacred Heart community for supporting SHU … a great way to show Pioneers helping Pioneers.”

SHU’s Giving Day is dedicated to increasing student and alumni engagement by highlighting programs, students and faculty that will benefit from the contributions. The fresh influx of funds will bolster the student experience, athletic teams and many other aspects of the University such as scholarship, new and enhanced programs, faculty development and state-of-the-art facilities.
