SHU Professor Featured in People Magazine
Professor Charles Gillespie shares his expertise on the new pontiff with popular publication
Congratulations to Professor Charles A. Gillespie who was quoted in People Magazine’s new exclusive print issue on Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope.
On campus, Gillespie is an associate professor of Catholic studies where he teaches classes centered around theater, literature and their respective intersection with religion. He is also SHU’s inaugural Pioneer Journey director, a program that helps students hold challenging conversations, celebrate uncommon ideas and foster tolerance.
Before SHU, Gillespie studied at Villanova University and the Yale University Divinity School before receiving his Ph.D. in religious studies from the University of Virginia. Gillespie is also working on a book, God on Broadway, which will be published later this year.
