SHU and Trinity Health Of New England Launch Workforce Development Partnership
New initiative will expand internships and career opportunities for University’s nursing students
Sacred Heart University and Trinity Health Of New England have announced a new strategic partnership aimed at addressing the growing demand for skilled nurses through a comprehensive workforce development platform. The initiative will provide SHU nursing students with expanded access to clinical internships and create direct pathways to long-term careers in health care.
The partnership is designed to support both students and the regional health care system by aligning academic preparation with real-world experience. Through clinical placements across Trinity Health Of New England’s hospitals and care facilities, SHU students will gain invaluable hands-on experience and exposure to diverse patient care environments.
“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to educating the next generation of health care leaders,” said Karen Daley, Sacred Heart University’s dean of the Dr. Susan L. Davis, R.N., & Richard J. Henley College of Nursing. “By combining SHU’s rigorous academic programs with Trinity Health Of New England’s exceptional clinical settings, we’re helping our students transition seamlessly from the classroom to impactful careers.”
As the health care industry continues to face significant staffing shortages, particularly in nursing, this collaboration underscores the importance of early professional development and practical training. Internships offered through the partnership will emphasize critical clinical skills, patient care excellence and long-term career readiness.
“We are proud to partner with Sacred Heart University in cultivating a strong and compassionate nursing workforce for the future,” said Maureen Lanzoni, chief human resources officer for Trinity Health Of New England. “Our commitment to education and workforce development ensures that students not only complete their training but thrive in meaningful careers that serve our communities.”
The workforce development platform is set to launch for the fall 2025 semester, with applications for the first cohort of clinical internships effective immediately.
