After a successful run this spring, Flyway of Life is back in Connecticut theatres

Following two sold-out screenings this past spring, Flyway of Life—an awe-inspiring documentary celebrating the Atlantic Flyway and the incredible migratory journey of North America’s birds—returns to the Sacred Heart University Community Theatre.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker and Sacred Heart alumnus Tomas Koeck ’22, MA ’24,
Flyway of Life highlights the essential role of habitats along the Atlantic Flyway, exploring how
ecosystems from Canada’s tundra to Costa Rica’s jungles are interconnected through bird
migration. Featuring scientists, naturalists and conservation leaders, the film connects
environmental storytelling with science and advocacy. The film also explores several different ecosystems along America’s easternmost migration path—showing how different habitats are interconnected.

A viewing event will take place on October 5 at the SHU Community Theatre marking the film’s much-anticipated return to the venue where it played to a sold-out audience earlier this year. The event will be followed by a book signing. For tickets, visit the theatre’s website.

“Bringing Flyway of Life back to Connecticut, especially after two sold-out events this past
spring, is deeply meaningful,” said Koeck. “These screenings are about more than just
showcasing a film—they’re about building a community of people who care about conservation, storytelling and our shared natural world.”

An exhibit of Koeck's still photography was also on display across the street from the SHU Community Theatre at the Fairfield Public Library's Bruce S. Kershner Art Gallery in conjunction with the release of the film. Fellow SHU alumni Collin Moura ’25, Eric Torrens ’19, MA’25 and Emily Gentile ’18 were also part of Koeck's creative team.

The film will also be screened on October 1 at the University of Connecticut Avery Point’s Alexey von Schlippe Gallery and the campus auditorium in Groton. Attendees will begin at the Alexey von Schlippe Gallery at 4 p.m. with a reception and exhibition of photographs by Koeck. At 4:30 p.m. Koeck and Jon Dodd of the Atlantic Shark Institute will discuss Koeck’s new film Chasing Fins, a film about sharks off New England, which is now streaming on PBS. At 5:30 p.m. visitors will make a short walk to the campus auditorium for the 6 p.m. screening for Flyway of Life followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker and book signing.
