Papal Nuncio Visit Kicks Off Chapel Anniversary Celebrations
Papal Nuncio to the United States Archbishop Christophe Pierre kicked off Sacred Heart University’s Chapel of the Holy Spirit 10th anniversary celebrations this week.
Starting in the late morning, Pierre addressed hundreds of students, faculty and staff in the University Commons Auditorium. In his colloquium presentation, he talked about the recent Youth Synod and Pope Francis’ response document, Christus Vivit. He encouraged students to be themselves and reminded them that Jesus Christ is alive inside them and loves them always.
Later in the day, Pierre presided over Mass in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. His homily focused on the role the holy spirit plays in people’s lives and how they should embrace it. Guest cantors were alumna Allegra De Vita ’11 and Erick Sánchez who wowed Mass attendees with their powerful and beautiful voices. De Vita will be back on campus on Saturday, September 21, for a special choral concert at the chapel.
Mass was followed by a Youth Festival on the Lower Quad, which displayed work completed by Campus Ministry and Volunteer Programs & Service Learning. In the evening, Pierre had dinner with about 70 faculty members and administrators. They reflected on the significant challenges facing the vision the pope has for the church, the world and academia.
