Sacred Heart University has achieved recognition from the Military Times and College Factual organizations as a top school for veterans.

Veterans Event

“Sacred Heart University is dedicated to our military heroes and their families,” said Kathy Dilks, director of graduate, international and veteran student affairs. “The University and its dedicated team members who work with veterans make a concerted effort to create a seamless process from the moment they consider SHU, to the point of graduation and beyond. We are there step by step to encourage and assist. We are pleased to be recognized for the great work that is done for these amazing students.”

Besides helping student-veterans with admission, financial aid and benefits processes, Dilks said the University’s team of professionals works hard to help them feel at home by having other student-veterans conduct tours and make connections. Moreover, the University provides the Veterans Resource Center, where student-veterans can get together as they strive to achieve their education goals. They also can learn about other resources available to them on campus and within the community.

To mark Veterans Day this month, SHU’s Center for Career & Professional Development hosted an intimate career fair for veterans and offered them résumé help, interview training, LinkedIn profile-building and other career-related services. Sacred Heart’s Student Veterans Organization conducted a student panel discussion that day as well, where SHU students who served in the military discussed their lives, upbringing, military experience and transition back to civilian life.

Military Times is a source for news and information on issues facing service members and their families. According to the organization, it surveyed hundreds of colleges and universities across the country on their policies related to military and veteran students, academic outcomes, military-supportive cultures and other factors for its “Best for Vets: Colleges 2020” rankings. College Factual, an organization that helps students find the best college to suit them, highlighted colleges and universities that work hard to provide quality educational outcomes to veterans, active-duty military students and families for its “2020 Best Colleges for Veterans” rankings.
