New Alumni Board President Wants to ‘Bring SHU to You’
Daniel Remiszewski sets sights on bringing more events to alumni where they live
Daniel Remiszewski ’14 began his term as the new president of the Sacred Heart University alumni board on July 1, and he has big plans for connecting more SHU graduates with their alma mater.
Remiszewski, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and went on to earn a master’s in health care administration from the University of New Haven, owns two businesses in Connecticut.
He is the founder and director of Northeast Medical Institute, LLC—a post-secondary occupational training school with campuses in Stamford, Woodbridge, Middlebury and East Hartford—offering courses to become a certified nurses’ aide, patient care technician, phlebotomy technician or EKG technician, as well as first aid and CPR classes. He holds the distinction of being the youngest school owner in Connecticut. He pioneered the launch of Connecticut's first hybrid self-paced CNA course available online before the pandemic.
Remiszewski also co-owns EZMedcard, a telehealth company where licensed medical providers conduct evaluations for patients looking to get their medical marijuana cards in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Mississippi and Kentucky.
Sacred Heart had a profound impact on Remiszewski. The University is where he met his wife, Lauren M. Tycz ’15. They were married in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit on campus. He is business partners with another Sacred Heart alum, Julien Debelle Duplan ’16, and he keeps in close touch with several other classmates and peers. “I even live down the street from my roommate and his wife, who I also met at Sacred Heart.”
As someone who went through Catholic schools his entire life, Remiszewski was looking for the same when it came time for college. Sacred Heart wasn’t initially on his list of potential colleges, but his cousin, who was attending at the time, highly recommended he visit the campus. Sacred Heart’s small size and welcoming community spoke to him. “I know everybody says that SHU feels like family,” he said. “There’s a reason for that. It does.”
Remiszewski plans to increase alumni engagement by bringing more events and networking opportunities to SHU graduates where they live. Most large events focus on bringing alumni to campus, which may not be practical for those who live far away. “I want to engage with alumni to find out how best to ‘bring SHU to you,’” he said. The association already holds alumni days at Red Sox and Yankees games and other regional sporting events, happy hours and more.
Sacred Heart alumni hail from all 50 states and 71 countries around the world. There are regional alumni-led chapters in Boston, Florida, Fairfield/Westchester counties, Greater Hartford, Long Island, New Jersey, Rhode Island, New York City and Washington, D.C. Remiszewski wants to expand the number of locations across the country, focusing on engaging alumni in fun, family-friendly events. “I want to get more recent alumni involved and keep them engaged with Sacred Heart,” he said.
He also wants to increase interactions between alumni and current students. “There are a lot of alumni who own very successful businesses or are very prominent in their career,” he said. “Bringing those contacts back to campus would be a huge opportunity for our students.”
“I am excited to work with Dan in this new role,” said Robert Gilmore, executive director of alumni engagement & events for Sacred Heart. “He is an inspiring young leader within his industry and has a sharp passion for SHU and being a Pioneer. I believe he will help usher in a renaissance of engagement with all of our alumni during his term.”
