Great River Golf Pro Jason Loomis Wins Connecticut PGA Award
Jason Loomis deemed ‘Merchandiser of the Year’ for his dedication as a golf professional
Sacred Heart University’s Great River Golf Club is saluting its head golf professional, Jason Loomis, for winning the Connecticut Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) 2021 Merchandiser of the Year Award.
The award goes to a PGA member who demonstrates quality performance in golf shop operations and also exhibits exceptional skills as a merchandiser in the advocacy of golf. The association honors members in three categories: private club, public facility and resort facilities. Loomis won in the public facility category.
A golf professional since 2012, Loomis has been with Great River since 2019. He is a certified golf instructor and has a degree in golf management from Keiser University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
“Receiving the award for Connecticut PGA Merchandiser of the Year is a great honor, not only for myself but for everyone at Great River,” Loomis said. “I have been fortunate in my career to work at some of the top golf courses and learn from some of the top golf professionals in the country. Then I had the opportunity to take those experiences and bring what I learned to Great River and Sacred Heart University.”
The Connecticut PGA and PGA of America annually bestow awards upon members to acknowledge performance and achievements. There are 330 PGA members and associates in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts; nationally, there are more than 28,000 members.
Sacred Heart University purchased the Great River Golf Club in 2015, including its 18-hole golf course and 32,000-square-foot clubhouse. Built along the banks of the Housatonic River, the club is a championship-style, Tommy Fazio-designed, 18-hole golfing destination for golfers of all abilities, according to the club’s website. Golf Digest has named it one of America’s top 100 golf courses.
“I am very blessed to receive this award, but it belongs just as much, if not more, to Karin Attolino for all her hard work and dedication,” Loomis said. “Karin has been our golf shop manager here at Great River for more than 15 years and is one of the best managers I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Combining her experience with mine, plus the addition of our new assistant, Brendan Burke, I’m confident the golf shop at Great River will continue to be one of the best in the state for years to come.”
