There were various reasons why I chose SCPR. Primarily, my passion for the subject matter, which was sparked during my undergraduate studies in strategic communication, public relations & advertising. The opportunity to delve deeper into public relations and advertising was incredibly appealing. I was eager to engage with these topics more thoroughly and immerse myself in the specialized curriculum offered by the program. Additionally, the one-year length of the program was a perfect fit for my schedule, allowing me to balance my academic pursuits with my love for tennis, working and playing during the day while attending classes in the evening. The structure of the program, combined with its comprehensive coverage of key topics, made it an ideal choice for me.
Yes, I was an undergraduate at SHU for three years and a member of the women's tennis team. Choosing to continue my education at SHU for grad school was an easy decision. I wanted to deepen my knowledge of PR and advertising; subjects I had grown to love. Also, the opportunity to spend another year in the U.S. to further develop my character and to use my remaining eligibility for tennis were significant factors. SHU had already become a home away from home, and I was excited to continue my academic and athletic journey here.
My favorite part of the SCPR program has been the wealth of new information I've absorbed while genuinely enjoying the learning process. The professors and my classmates have also been a highlight. Unlike my undergraduate experience, I feel a stronger connection to both my peers and instructors. The program fosters a sense of community where students' voices are heard and valued, and there's a collective drive and enthusiasm for the coursework. This supportive environment has really enriched my academic journey and personal growth.
I am currently in the process of narrowing down my career options to a specific location where I want to establish myself professionally. During my current internship, I have been working as a social media intern and assistant pro coach at a racquet club, which has provided me with valuable hands-on experience in my field of study. This internship has been instrumental for the professional world, equipping me with practical skills and insights that I am eager to apply in my future career wherever that may be.
My experience at SHU has been transformative. It has prepared me in ways I never imagined, offering both a top-notch education and some of the most memorable experiences of my life. The balance of challenging coursework and extracurricular activities, including the highs and lows, has shaped me into a driven, independent and compassionate individual. SHU has provided a nurturing environment that has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally.
For those considering SHU’s SCPR program, here's my simple piece of advice: if you want to expand your mind and take a deep dive into the communications sector, this is the program for you. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics in communications, public relations and advertising, providing valuable insights that are applicable both in professional settings and everyday life. This program not only equips you with the skills needed to succeed in the field but also broadens your understanding of how communication shapes our world. Embrace the opportunity to learn, connect and grow—it's a decision you won't regret!
