Doctoral Nursing Students Earn Jones Foundation Scholarships
Ten students receive $3,000 each to help fund their research and projects
Ten students in Sacred Heart University’s doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program have received $3,000 each from the Paul L. Jones Foundation, a Waterbury-based organization that assists students in medical and health-related fields.
The scholarship recipients are nurses enrolled in the Dr. Susan L. Davis, R.N., & Richard J. Henley College of Nursing, preparing for advanced practice roles and executive leadership positions. The selection was based on merit and need, and applicants needed to have a GPA of 3.8 or higher in the DNP program. Applicants also had to write a personal statement explaining their doctoral research and its impact on the health-care industry.
The Paul L. Jones Foundation started funding Sacred Heart scholarships in 2013 to offset the cost of tuition, books and supplies for students in the DNP program. Additionally, it provides funds the students’ research and development of their DNP projects.
“We have many students who have great financial need, and many often reduce their working hours to allow for more time to concentrate on their studies. The Paul L. Jones Scholarship is a tremendous financial help for these students,” said Sylvie Rosenbloom, director of SHU’s Family Nurse Practitioner Doctorate of Nursing Practice Hybrid Program.
The 2021 Paul L. Jones Scholarship recipients are Lizete Dos Santos, Dianne Eannotti, Joni-Kay Johnson, Domingos Martins, Austin McCaslin, Sunny Rana, Laura Ritter, Alexi Rivera, Socnite Sebourne-Francis and Lauren Violette.
