Maximum 10-year accreditation recognizes SHU program for excellence in meeting national standards
The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) has awarded Sacred Heart University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program a 10-year reaccreditation, a testament to the program’s dedication to delivering a rigorous, student-centered education that prepares graduates for successful careers.
“Achieving a 10-year accreditation, the maximum possible, from CAPTE is a significant milestone for our physical therapy program,” said Karl Minges, dean of the College of Health Professions. “It reflects our commitment to excellence in education and clinical practice, and the dedication of our talented faculty and hardworking students.”
The CAPTE reaccreditation not only validates SHU’s curriculum, but it also strengthens the University’s mission to prepare future health care practitioners who will make a positive impact in their communities, Minges added.
Christopher Petrosino, program director, said the reaccreditation recognizes the DPT’s outstanding problem-based curriculum and its exceptional faculty and staff. SHU produces highly competent physical therapists to provide care for those in need by relying on innovative teaching, learning and research. Petrosino pointed out that the program educates students in mind, body and spirit to prepare them to be compassionate and competent health care professionals.
“I am always excited to tell others how terrific our faculty, staff, program and students are, and I am extremely pleased with the caring, collaboration and dedication demonstrated throughout this reaccreditation process,” Petrosino said. “We are even more excited to move into the next 10 years with a renewed determination to meet all challenges ahead.”
