Sacred Heart offers a full calendar of events that support academic growth and personal exploration. The Center for Catholic Studies, for example, hosts The Human Journey colloquia series that covers topics such as faith, ethics, social justice and spirituality in today’s world. These talks are open to all students and provide a chance to engage and meet others with similar interests while sharing meaningful ideas. There is no need to be an expert or have a specific background to benefit from these events.
The full schedule of campus activities can be viewed at the SHU Events Calendar. From lectures and performances to affinity club gatherings and workshops, there’s something for everyone.
Athletics: A Fun Way to Connect
Going to Sacred Heart Pioneer sporting events is one of the easiest ways to become immersed in campus life. Whether you’re a huge sports fan or just looking for a fun way to hang out, games are a great spot to meet people and cheer on your school.
Students can go to Campus Field and watch the football team play in the fall. Later in the fall, they can check out a men’s or women’s basketball game at the newly renovated William Pitt Athletic & Convocation Center. Then of course, there’s the men and women’s hockey teams that play at SHU’s state-of-the-art Martire Family Arena.
Besides basketball, football and hockey, SHU has other amazing teams, including soccer, lacrosse, volleyball, wrestling, bowling, dance, cheer and more. You can see all the upcoming games here on the SHU Athletics website. Check out the schedule and grab some friends or even go solo and make new ones!
The First 50 Days: Helping Students Settle In
Sacred Heart’s First 50 Days program supports first-year students by providing a range of orientation and social activities. These events help students adjust to campus life, build friendships and learn about University resources. Participating in these activities can be a helpful first step in feeling at home. Find out more at the First 50 Days Events webpage.
Why Should You Attend Events Without Knowing Anyone?
Many students feel nervous about attending events alone. This is normal, and it is essential to remember that many other students feel the same way. Campus events are intentionally designed to be welcoming. Students often find that showing up leads to unexpected connections.
Campus events at Sacred Heart University offer more than just entertainment or academic enrichment. They are a doorway to community, growth and friendship. Students who attend events, even without knowing anyone beforehand, often find themselves more engaged and connected to campus life.
Parents and students are encouraged to explore the event calendar and athletics schedules. These small steps can make a big difference in creating a fulfilling college experience.
