Fall Favorites
Just 20 minutes from campus, Silverman’s Farm in Easton is a fall staple. From apple picking and cider donuts to pumpkin patches and hayrides, it is the perfect spot to kick off the autumn season. Known for its ice cream, farm stand and corn maze, Plasko’s in Trumbull is a great spot for a quick afternoon treat, a morning cup of coffee or a weekend adventure.

If you’re in the mood to shop or just walk around and explore, you’ve got plenty of options. Fairfield’s downtown offers cozy coffee shops, bookstores, unique shops and plenty of restaurants. Meanwhile, downtown Westport is about 20 minutes away. This charming downtown area has trendy boutiques, popular retailers and amazing food options. For a full modern shopping experience, head to Norwalk. At The SoNo Collection shopping mall, you’ll find big-name stores, rooftop dining options and fun art installations, making it a perfect spot to spend the day. No car? No problem. SHU’s shuttle makes regular trips to the Trumbull Mall, five minutes from campus, as well as trips to downtown Fairfield on the weekends.
Outdoor Adventures
When you are ready for a change of scenery, Fairfield and the surrounding area offer many ways to enjoy the outdoors. Lake Mohegan is just a 10-minute drive from campus and is perfect for hiking, swimming or lounging. For a fun day trip, visit Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, home to over 300 animals, including tigers and red pandas. And if you love hiking or biking, Peqonnock River Valley Park in Trumbull features scenic trails along the river and peaceful wooded paths for a quick escape into nature. If you’re looking to spend the day with your toes in the sand, Fairfield’s Jennings Beach is a short ride away.
Good Eats
Sacred Heart is surrounded by amazing spots to grab a bite, whether you’re looking for a quick coffee or a sit-down meal with friends. Start your morning with a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich from J Bagels & Café, before heading over to Sitting Duck Tavern for great burgers and appetizers or Romanacci’s for delicious brick-oven pizza. If you are looking for something more upscale, Ecco Wine Bar is perfect for small plates, including your Italian favorites. Little Pub offers a fun, casual atmosphere with classic dishes. And if you are craving Mexican-inspired flavors, Malibu Taco serves fresh, homemade tacos and burritos in a relaxed, California-inspired setting.
Fun-Filled Entertainment
Need a study break? Located in downtown Fairfield, the SHU Community Theatre is a beautifully restored historic venue that brings art and entertainment to life. From classic films and indie screenings to live music, comedy shows and special events, it’s a hub where students can enjoy a night out without traveling far from campus. There are even more opportunities to relax and unwind and catch the latest movie release. AMC Theatres is just a short drive from campus.
