Annual Pioneer Gala Raises Funds for Student Scholarships
Craig Melvin and James T. Morley, Jr., will be honored at the 2026 Pioneer Scholarship Gala, celebrating leadership, service and support for student scholarships

Sacred Heart University will honor Craig Melvin and James T. Morley, Jr., at this year’s Pioneer Scholarship Gala. The night of celebration will also serve as an opportunity to raise philanthropic investments for student scholarships.
The event will take place April 25 at the University’s state-of-the-art Martire Family Arena.
Craig Melvin
Melvin is a co-anchor of NBC News’ TODAY, a co-host of the 3rd Hour of TODAY and a host of the Dateline NBC broadcasts. Throughout his career, he has covered major national and global events, including presidential inaugurations, political conventions, Olympic Games and the Super Bowl.
Melvin is widely recognized for his in-depth reporting and interviews with leaders across the political spectrum, as well as his extensive coverage of major criminal trials, mass shootings and social justice issues. He is the author of Pops: Learning to Be a Son and Father and the children’s book I’m Proud of You, and he is an active advocate and board member of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.
James T. Morley, Jr.
Morley has been a dedicated leader and champion of Sacred Heart University for decades, serving with distinction as a trustee and former board of trustees chairman. His thoughtful leadership, generosity and commitment to students have helped guide the University through significant growth and transformation.
A founding partner of NewCity Communication and former executive with Cox Radio, Inc., Morley retired after more than 40 years in broadcasting. He remains deeply engaged in civic and cultural service and currently serves on the WSHU Board of Directors. His lifelong commitment to service, integrity and community reflects the very heart of the Pioneer spirit.
