
Combined BA/MA Communication Programs
Incoming freshmen with a strong high school academic performance and an expressed interest in communication are eligible to join our combined five-year program, which leads to the completion of both a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Master of Arts (MA) degree in five years.

By beginning your graduate work while still enrolled as an undergraduate, you receive a substantial discount on the overall cost of your graduate degree. This option is available to the following majors: Immersive Media & Mixed Reality, Media Arts, Sports Communication & Media and Strategic Communication, Public Relations and Advertising.
Students accepted into the combined program will begin their graduate studies during the second semester of their senior year, and can elect to pursue a Master of Arts in Journalism & Media Production (JMP), a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication & Public Relations (SCPR) or a Master of Arts in Sports Communication and Media (SCM).
Degree Options
Master of Arts in Journalism & Media Production (JMP)
Powerful stories need powerful storytellers. The Master of Arts in journalism & media production (JMP) program at Sacred Heart University positions its students to stand out as innovative storytellers and content creators in today’s media industry. Students in the combined five-year JMP program will take the graduate courses CM 501 Media Communications and Culture (Fall Semester) and CM 503 Media Ethics in a Professional Context (Spring Semester).
Master of Arts in Strategic Communication & Public Relations (SCPR)
The Master of Arts in strategic communication and public relations prepares students for a variety of careers in corporate, media, nonprofit and political organizations. Students in the combined SCPR program can take up to two graduate courses during their senior year: CM 502: Strategic Communication in the Digital Age and CM 642: Branding and Visual Communication.
Master of Arts in Sports Communication & Media (SCM)
With professional tracks in sports broadcasting as well as athletic communications and promotions, the Master of Arts in sports communication and media is specifically designed from a humanities tradition to showcase multimedia production and capitalize on Sacred Heart’s ideal geographic location in the heart of the U.S. sports media industry. Students in the combined five-year SCM program will take the graduate courses CM 550 Sports Communication in the Digital Age during the fall of their senior year and CM 551 Sports, Culture & Media during the spring semester of their senior year.
Master of Arts/Master of Fine Arts in Film & Television (FTMA)
Whether it is narratives, documentaries, webisodes or starting their own production company, the master of arts and master of fine arts in film & television prepares students in all facets of the field. Students in the combined FTMA program will take the graduate courses CM 535 (fall semester) and CM 505 (spring semester).
Career Outlook
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports projected growth for employment in media and communication occupations between 2019 to 2029 will result in about 46,200 new jobs. Demand for media and communication occupations is expected to rise from the need to create, edit, translate and disseminate information through a variety of different platforms.
