Policy and Procedures for Infection Control in the Classroom and Laboratories
To prevent the spread of infection and maintain a safe, hygienic learning environment, all students, faculty and staff must follow standard infection control procedures in classroom, laboratory and simulation settings.
Hand Hygiene
Wash or sanitize hands before and after all lab activities, after contact with body fluids and before leaving the lab.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Wear appropriate PPE such as gloves, masks, gowns or safety goggles when required by the activity or instructor.
Cleaning and Disinfection
Disinfect all shared equipment, mats and surfaces before and after use with approved cleaning agents.
Sharps and Biohazardous Materials
If sharps are used, dispose of them immediately in designated sharps containers.
Illness
Students showing symptoms of a communicable illness should not attend in-person lab activities and must notify the instructor immediately.
Waste Disposal
Discard all waste in the proper receptacles according to university environmental health and safety guidelines.
