All individuals in the OT program must be familiar with and follow the university’s emergency response and evacuation procedures.

Emergency Notification

In the event of fire, severe weather, active threat or medical emergency, immediately follow campus emergency notification protocols (such as the emergency alert system or alarms).

For detailed instructions, visit the Sacred Heart University Emergency Plan.

Evacuation

Evacuate the classroom or lab calmly and promptly via the nearest marked exit.

Faculty or designated personnel will take attendance at the designated assembly point outside the building.

Fire Safety

If it is safe to do so, shut off equipment and close doors when exiting. Do not use elevators during an evacuation.

Medical Emergencies

Call emergency services (dial 911) and campus security 203-371-7911.

Provide first aid or CPR only if you are trained and it is safe to do so.

Shelter-in-Place (Severe Weather or Active Threat)

Follow posted shelter-in-place procedures in each classroom and lab.

Accessibility

Faculty are responsible for ensuring that students with mobility or sensory impairments are aware of accessible evacuation routes.

Training and Drills

Emergency procedures are reviewed during orientation and practiced through scheduled drills throughout the academic year.
