We were given the opportunity to take a deeper dive into the production of craft beers through recipe development and brewing in a collaborative team setting. We took the book knowledge of sanitation and safety principles, standard operating procedures and laboratory methods of analysis and put them into action every week. I gained an incredible appreciation of the importance of chemistry and attention to detail that goes into the brewing process, while allowing for individual creativity.
I am the Production Assistant at Black Pond Brews, and I learned a lot that I could bring back to my job. The program is also a great stepping stone into the industry. This program is an excellent introduction to the world of craft brewing. Not just for making beer, but planning and running a commercial establishment as well. The beer-making process is well covered, and even if you don’t plan on entering the professional world, the growth in knowledge and appreciation of the process will greatly improve your homebrewing experience and enhance your enjoyment of the brewhouses you visit.
