Admission Requirements

Applicants to the MSAT program must have completed a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and all prerequisite coursework prior to the start of the program.

For dual degree students, matriculation into the MSAT program is contingent upon maintaining good academic standing, completing all prerequisite coursework, and earning the undergraduate degree prior to the start of the MSAT program.

To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Complete the program’s online application by the application deadline
    • Including submission of all final transcripts from institutions attended
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Prerequisite GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
  • Completion of the following prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” or better:
    • Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab
    • Anatomy & Physiology II with Lab
    • General Biology with Lab
    • Physics with Lab
    • Chemistry
    • Kinesiology or Biomechanics
    • Exercise Physiology
    • Nutrition
    • Statistics
    • General Psychology
  • Personal statement (1-2 pages) describing interest in and preparation for a career in athletic training
  • Two letters of recommendation addressing readiness for graduate study and/or potential as a health care professional
  • Documentation of a minimum of 10-15 hours of observation under direct supervision of an athletic trainer
  • Attestation of the ability to meet the MSAT program’s Technical Standards

Admission to the MSAT program is based on a holistic review of each applicant by the program’s application review committee.

Internal applicants and applicants from affiliated programs must submit their application materials online via the SHU Application System.

External applicants must submit their online application materials via the ATCAS System.

All students enrolling in the MSAT program must complete health clearance requirements, including verification of immunization status, as well as a criminal background screening prior to the start of the program. All documentation is administered and verified through a program-designated compliance platform. Students are responsible for all costs associated with these requirements.
