Red's Graduate Assistant

The Graduate Assistant (GA) role is a live-in position working in the Student Union Office. Direct supervision of Red's, the on campus University Pub, will be this position's primary responsibility.

Extensive evening and weekend hours arc required with formal hours arranged with the supervisor. The Student union GA reports to the Director of the Student Union. The position will also require on-call hours that will be rotated with other Graduate Assistants.

The GA must take two graduate courses each term. (The position is contingent upon acceptance into a graduate program at the university.)

  • Full-time (12 months - renewable up to 2 years)
    • Limited duties during Christmas vacation and Spring Break
  • Compensation:
    • $12,300 stipend
    • Apartment styled housing with free cable (will be living with other graduate assistants)
    • $100 dining dollars/month
    • $15,000 tuition waiver per contract year. No more than two classes per term may be taken during first year.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage Red's Pub including student managers and staff, inventory, budget. publicity and programming.
    • Ensure that Red's provides a safe and suitable area for students of age, faculty and staff to consume alcohol.
    • Ensure that all State liquor laws are upheld
    • Educate students on the effects of alcohol and the correct ways to serve and consume it.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of a student employee development program.
  • Co-Supervise Student Union Manager Staff including scheduling, staff development and evaluation.
  • Serve duty hours and evening events and service supervision on a rotating basis.
  • Participate in staff and departmental meetings and development opportunities.
  • Prepares weekly/monthly reports as required by Director
  • Assume other projects as assigned by Director and meets weekly to discuss events and budgeting pertaining to area of supervision.
  • Assists with the coordination of summer conferences/camps for on and off-campus groups.
    • Facilitate the day to day operations of the summer conference program to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and revenue goals are met.

Supervision of Personnel

  • Will help supervise 80-100 student employees

Knowledge & Skills Needed

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Undergraduate experience in Student Union operations/programming
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong commitment to student development
  • Embracing of a team atmosphere
  • Computer skills

Unusual Working Conditions

  • Considerable nights and weekends

Student Union Info Desk Graduate Assistant

  • Manages campus shuttle service including. scheduling routes. Programming special trips. advertising, Tracking of passenger ridership. and maintenance of the online SHUttle tracking system.

  • Serves as the Student Union Web content manager.
