Residential Hall Director
The Residence Hall Director (RHD) position is a Graduate-Assistant level, live-in, 12-month position within the Department of Residential Life. As the primary live-in staff member for an assigned residential area, the RHD is charged with the responsibility to develop a supportive educational environment that fosters learning outside of the classroom, develops students holistically and supports the academic success and retention of residential students. The RHD is an integral member of the Residential Life team; they understand and uphold not only the department's mission, but the University's mission as well and respects its Catholic values and identity.
- Full-time (20+ hours/week)
- Compensation Package:
- $16,000 tuition waiver
- $13,200 housing waiver
- $15,000 stipend
- Full Monday-Friday meal plan during academic semesters

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Primary live-in staff member for the assigned residential community. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Residential Student Engagement & Retention Efforts
- Lead residential student retention efforts through intentional outreach, visibility in the community and student-centered office hours.
- Support student success planning through direct interaction and connection to campus resources.
- Utilize University retention software to monitor student progress and provide support.
Selection, Training, & Supervision of Student Residential Staff Members
- Train, supervise and evaluate Resident Success Assistants (RSAs).
- Build staff cohesion through regular individual meetings and ongoing group training.
- Oversee Residential Curriculum initiatives aiding in community development.
Community Standards, Crisis Response, & Emergency Management
- Serve as a Community Standards officer and facilitate hearings in accordance with University policy.
- Participate in the campus on-duty rotation and respond to crises and emergencies using established protocols and resources.
Residential Hall & Department Administration
- Prepare and manage residential facility opening and closing processes.
- Monitor facility operations and needs within assigned residence halls.
- Assist with departmental assessment, reporting and administrative functions as needed.
Additional Position & Departmental Responsibilities
- Maintain a permanent, full-time, live-in on-campus residency within the assigned area.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training and professional development opportunities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Supervision of Personnel
Up to seven (7) Resident Success Assistants (RSA) and one (1) senior RSA (SRSA).
Knowledge & Skills Needed
- Bachelor's degree and admission/enrollment in a graduate degree program at SHU
- Interest and ability to live in and lead a residential student community
- Experience in student development and leadership; prior experience as live-in residential assistant or equivalent strongly preferred
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
