Laudato Si’ Sustainability & Social Justice Graduate Assistant

The Graduate Assistant (GA) plays a key role in supporting the programming, communications and student engagement efforts of the Laudato Si’ Office of Sustainability & Social Justice (LSOSSJ). The GA works collaboratively with the Assistant Director, Director and student volunteers to help advance Sacred Heart University’s mission-aligned commitment to environmental sustainability, ecological justice and social equity. This is a hands-on leadership development opportunity for a graduate student interested in sustainability, communications, event planning and mission-driven community engagement.

  • Part-Time (20 hours/week)
  • Compensation: $13,650 stipend

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Communications & Social Media
  • Launch and sustain the Laudato Si’ Office’s social media presence across relevant platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads)
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications for brand-aligned content
  • Create graphics, draft posts and maintain an active calendar of posts related to LSOSSJ events, initiatives and student spotlights
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of the LSOSSJ newsletter (digital and/or print)
Event Support & Logistics
  • Provide logistical support for events such as Earth Week, Laudato Si’ forums, workshops and campus awareness campaigns
  • Assist with registration, promotion, signage and day-of event coordination
  • Capture photos, collect participant feedback and contribute to event reporting
Student Engagement & Office Support
  • Help organize and lead volunteer/student leader meetings and project groups
  • Act as a liaison between the LSOSSJ and campus clubs, student government and mission-aligned organizations
  • Maintain an organized system for tracking student involvement and event participation
  • Contribute to general office duties such as managing supplies, maintaining records and assisting with meeting prep

Knowledge & Skills Needed

  • Enrolled in a graduate program at Sacred Heart University
  • Interest or background in sustainability, social justice, nonprofit work, higher education or Catholic social teaching
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Experience with social media platforms and digital content creation (e.g., Canva, Adobe, Microsoft Sway, Forms, PowerPoint, Instagram, FB)
  • Willingness to work in person and occasional evenings or weekends for events

Professional Development & Learning Goals

The Graduate Assistant will:

  • Gain experience in mission-driven program coordination and communications
  • Build skills in sustainability education, digital marketing and leadership in higher education
  • Engage in reflective practice grounded in Laudato Si’ principles and the university’s Catholic identity
  • Develop a portfolio of work in event planning, outreach and community impact reporting

Duties may take place outside of regularly scheduled hours and on weekends.

Mission Integration Graduate Assistant

  • Part-Time (20 hours/week)
  • Compensation: $16,800 tuition stipend

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide an atmosphere of hospitality and help build community within Mission & Culture
  • Oversee daily operations of the Mission suite
  • Serve as a liaison to the Campus Ministry team, including regular coordination around the 11 a.m. Sunday Mass
  • Assist with planning and logistics for Mission and Campus Ministry events and programs
  • Represent Campus Ministry at admissions Open Houses, Accepted Students Days and other recruitment events
  • Support Campus Ministry’s social media presence and assist with marketing for events and initiatives
  • Assist with office administrative duties

Unusual Working Conditions

Duties may take place outside of regularly scheduled hours and on weekends (i.e. Sunday's from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.).

Campus Ministry Graduate Assistant

To assist Campus Ministry with the daily functions of the Mission Lounge and with the preparation of student-centered programs. Support Campus Ministry staff and Peer Ministry Team in marketing and set up of all programs and events. Provide hospitality in the lounge.

  • Part-time (20 hours/week)
  • Compensation: $15,000

August 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the Mission Lounge (keep organized and stocked with food and supplies)
  • Provide an atmosphere of hospitality and build community in the Mission Lounge
  • Oversee social media and marketing for Campus Ministry events
  • Represent Campus Ministry at Admissions Open Houses and Accepted Students Days
  • Assist with event planning for Campus Ministry
  • Assist with office administrative duties as needed
