GA for Graduate & International Student Life

To assist in the daily operations of Graduate Student Life and International & Immigration Services. With Graduate Student Life, this role assists with event planning and managing the front desk of Graduate Student Life. This role also supports International & Immigration Services.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities: Graduate Student Life

  • Help create and manage social, cultural, professional development and recreational events for all graduate students
  • Assist graduate student life with front desk management, office tasks, and social media
  • Attend dedicated graduate events and activities, including, but not limited to: Orientations, Open Houses, Academic Program and SHU sponsored events

Principal Duties & Responsibilities: International & Immigration Services

  • The GA serves as a “Designated School Official” DSO in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and maintains expertise in F-1 student regulations to ensure institutional compliance
  • Organizes SEVIS data processing under the guidelines provided by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and maintains data and quality control management
  • Provides accurate immigration information to international students, monitors and tracks student immigration status and maintains appropriate files
  • Assists the department to prepare F-1 documents for all ESL, undergraduate, and graduate programs and ensure compliance with all federal policies and regulations
  • Establishes, updates and tracks SEVIS records on a semester/trimester/module basis
  • Assist with processing student requests in the ISS portal for all active students including OPT/STEM OPT
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Knowledge & Skills Needed

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Detail-oriented and well organized
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office skills and CRM systems
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Flexibility to work some evenings & weekends
  • Self-starter and finisher
  • Ability to work within a team
