Graduate Assistantship in Counselor Education

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create and distribute marketing materials for CNE programs in collaboration with the CNE Communications Committee and ACEP contact to include admissions information, current student engagement initiatives and continuing education presentations.
  • Research potential program admissions advertising pipelines to include SHU undergraduate
  • Send targeted emails to identified undergraduate program coordinators advertising CNE programs
  • Support program admissions through attendance at Open Houses, meeting with prospective students and tracking applicants to support the programs’ Admissions Committees
  • Outreach to CNE alumni to include communicating upcoming events and program evaluation measures to include creation and distribution of alumni surveys
  • Provide support to the Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) administrator by tracking program attendance, creating and sending completion certificates to attendees, and maintaining the database of program offerings per NBCC ACEP requirements
  • Assist in the creation of videos to support program marketing, student support and mock counseling sessions to be used in courses
  • Support CMHC and SC CACREP accreditation through duties as assigned
  • Other duties and projects related to the mission of the Farrington College of Education & Human Development
  • Demonstrate professionalism, responsibility, punctuality and academic integrity
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student information

  • Ability to work autonomously and to seek guidance when necessary

  • Enrolled as a matriculated graduate student in Counseling or other related field

Graduate Assistant for Ed.D. Program

The primary purpose of this position is to provide academic support and leadership to candidates in the Ed.D. Program at the Farrington College of Education & Human Development. A secondary purpose, is to provide research, administrative and other support to faculty members associated with the Ed.D. program.

There are two part-time GA positions available, although the program director may hire a different number and adjust the compensation accordingly.

  • Part-Time: 10 hours/week for 15 weeks in both the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters (total of 300 hours)
  • Compensation: The stipend is $30/hour for a total compensation of 
    $9,000
  • Location: This position does not require an on-campus presence. The GA can accomplish all of the position responsibilities remotely.

August 18, 2025 - June 30, 2026

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a mentor to doctoral candidates in individual, small group or full cohort settings
  • Schedule meetings with all individual doctoral students at least twice per semester, proactively reaching out to every student to schedule these meetings
  • Proactively reach out to instructors each semester to tailor support to the specific needs of the students in each course
  • Serve as a liaison between doctoral students and the program director
  • Provide leadership to initiatives related to the Ed.D. program (for example, student satisfaction surveys, conferences/special events)
  • Provide feedback to the Ed.D. program director on improvements to the Ed.D. program;
  • Provide research support for faculty in the doctoral program as approved by the program 
    director
  • As needed, provide professional learning for doctoral students (e.g., Zotero training, dissertation overview)
  • Complete any other related duties that the program director may assign

Knowledge & Skills Needed

  • Have successfully completed one year of the Doctor of Educational Leadership program
  • Have demonstrated proficiency in writing and research at the doctoral level, as evidenced by their successful completion of two years of coursework in the Ed.D. program.
  • Engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously
  • Take direction from the program director and faculty
  • Work independently
  • Initiate improvements to support doctoral students

Graduate Assistantship in Academic Advising

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Academic Success, the Graduate Academic Advisor serves an advisor and academic success coach. The graduate student intern applies student development theory, learning theory and effective coaching techniques in working with students.

  • Meet with students individually and in groups
  • Hold trainings on academic related issues; including registration, degree plans, career planning and other issues
  • Advise a caseload of students
  • Develop relationships with students
  • Work with education club on programming for first year students
  • Work to get first year students involved in education related volunteerism
  • Research literature and best practices in student success
  • Other duties and projects related to the mission of the Farrington College of Education & Human Development

  • Enrolled as a matriculated graduate student in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling or other related field
