Undergrad Student Showcase
Hosted by the School of Communication, Media & the Arts annually, students can display their creative and diverse projects at this event. This year, the projects featured an array of virtual reality experiences. From a chilling horror 360 short film to immersive virtual room setups in Mozilla Hubs and many short yet exciting VR platform games, this event offers something for everyone to enjoy. SHU Innovate Beat Saber Tournament
At this fun event, students can try out simple virtual reality (VR) games and compete against peers for a high score while becoming familiar with what the lab has to offer. This is an exciting event that is tailored to those looking to become familiar with the immersive experience of virtual reality while enjoying friendly competition. Join us at the next tournament and explore the NeXReality Lab while competing for a spot on our leaderboard. This tournament can also be a wonderful opportunity for clubs on campus to experience VR technology with their members. Feel free to contact the lab for an event inquiry.
Employee Event Collaboration with SHU FIT
SHU employees experienced the best culmination of networking, exercise and virtual reality (VR) technology all in one event. In collaboration with SHU FIT, the NeXReality lab offered a relaxing and enjoyable way to try out VR for the first time. Employees were able to connect with colleagues, unwind and get some exercise while diving into the world of VR.
CT Esports Showcase
Each year, Connecticut Esports Showcase brings multiple schools across the state together for a thrilling video game tournament. Following the success of the inaugural tournament in 2022, the 2023 event was leveled up with expanded, exciting ways for teams and individuals to compete. The tournament featured VR headsets and the opportunity for players to team up and compete in the thrilling game of Ultimechs. Join us next year and do not miss exploring innovative technology and seeing Connecticut’s best gaming talent.
Social Justice Week Event
Our event, Exploring Social Justice Through Virtual Reality: A Path to Empathy and Understanding, took our participants on a journey through immersive experiences that highlight social justice issues and promote empathy and understanding. Through this experience, the participants gained a better grasp of the challenges faced by marginalized communities and explored ways to create a more just and equitable society. This event offered a unique opportunity to explore social justice through the power of virtual reality! This event was held during Social Justice Week at SHU.
UX Design Jam
Like a game jam, this weekend long event allowed participants to try out their user interface (UI)/user experience (UX) design capabilities. The event kicked off with a presentation by Immersive Media & Mixed Reality major Sean McAteer ’23, where he introduced the tools and concepts participants needed for the event at the NeXReality Lab. Students learned from UX industry leaders and developed an impactful concept that was reviewed by experts in the field from Microsoft, Google and other tech leaders. Participants were able to leave with an impressive portfolio piece.

Go Beyond the Traditional Classroom
Classes at the NeXReality Lab offer a change of pace for both students and professors. This setting enables students to experiment and learn about the impact of virtual reality on various subjects. These classes, from International Marketing to VR in Esports, offer eye-opening opportunities to explore the possibilities in the realm of virtual reality while extending the boundaries of traditional learning.
