Advising & Student Success Team

The Welch College of Business & Technology’s (WCBT) professional Academic Advising & Student Success team are dedicated to supporting all students throughout their transition into the school and beyond. The team consists of three professional academic advisers who specifically advise all first-year WCBT students, helping them to use the student planning & advising (SPA) system, get involved in the community, and more. The team is led by the director of the Welch Experience, Cooper Rothman, and the assistant dean of student success, Sean Heffron, Ed.D.

Meet the Team

Sean Heffron, Ed.D.

Assistant Dean of Student Success

Sean Heffron has spent over 25 years helping students discover the best versions of themselves. In addition to his role as assistant dean for student success, Heffron teaches courses like business communications, management and business skills, and business explorations. His research areas include the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the link between parental communication and student success, student values on study abroad, and impactful programming for business students. Heffron is also a dynamic public presenter and enjoys teaching students how to create impactful messages when presenting, interviewing, and interacting with others in network settings.

Outside of the WCBT, Heffron is a husband and father of three great kids, and enjoys skiing, baseball, and writing. He's published several projects, including an upcoming three-novel series with Aethon Books.

Cooper (Samuel) Rothman, MS

Director of the Welch Experience

As the director of the Welch Experience, Cooper (Samuel) Rothman oversees student development in the WCBT, whether that is leadership development through the Corporate Structure program, Welch Mentors, and Mind Your Business Pre-Fall program, or professional development through the Speaker Series or Corporate Visits programs. Cooper is a Fairfield, CT, native who went to University of Delaware for undergraduate studies, and West Chester University for a graduate degree in higher education policy and student affairs. At Sacred Heart, he teaches the First-Year Experience class, provides academic advising, and is currently in his own academic journey, pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration at SHU.

Monique Ryan, JD

Academic Adviser

Monique Ryan is an academic adviser in the WCBT at Sacred Heart University, where she supports students as they explore their interests, select their majors, and build meaningful academic and career paths. She has served as an academic adviser since 2023 and serves first-year students who are majoring in management or sports management, or exploring business.  She also has taught Legal & Ethical Responsibilities in Business, as well as other legal classes as an adjunct instructor since 2009.

A licensed attorney, Ryan earned her Juris Doctor in 2003 and her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1995. She brings her legal experience into the classroom through practical discussions, real-world case studies, and an emphasis on ethical decision-making.  Ryan is passionate about helping students recognize their strengths, explore new possibilities, and make informed decisions about their futures. Having explored many academic interests herself as an undergraduate, she especially enjoys working with students who are still discovering the direction that is right for them. Her advising philosophy is simple: “We advise. You decide.”

Katelyn Donovan, BS

Academic Adviser

Katelyn Donovan is an academic adviser in the WCBT, supporting first-year students majoring in finance, business economics, and financial technology & analytics.

Donovan earned her bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University, where she double majored in finance and management. She is pursuing her MBA at Sacred Heart University, alongside her role as an academic adviser. With a strong foundation in business and an understanding of the undergraduate experience, Donovan enjoys building relationships with first-year students, helping them navigate the transition to college, and supporting them as they work toward their academic and professional goals.

Brian Marcucio, BA

Academic Adviser

Brian Marcucio is an academic adviser in the WCBT, working with students majoring in marketing, fashion marketing, business analytics & AI, and accounting.

With more than 30 years of experience in marketing and operations, Marcucio brings a unique industry perspective to WCBT. He believes that academic advising is about more than selecting courses—it's about building relationships, encouraging personal growth, and helping students find their direction as they navigate their college experience and prepare for their future careers.

Outside of SHU, Marcucio enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, and their dog Watson, who likes to think he’s in charge. With one son in college and another soon to follow, Marcucio has a unique appreciation for the college experience—bringing a professional and parent perspective to his role as academic adviser.
