What is a big question that you think the liberal arts help us to explore?

How can we use our different disciplines and come together as one to solve a problem?

What is one favorite quote or idea of yours from any class you've taken in the foundational core?

In philosophy I heard a quote that said everyone wants to be happy, but everyone does not know what happiness is. This means that in order to be happy, you have to understand yourself, instead of following other people's road to happiness.

How do you hope your studies will help you make a positive impact in your community?

I hope my studies with English and secondary education will prepare me to successfully teach students how to think critically, but to also help them understand the importance of English. As a community, we are losing the creativity that comes with writing. I want to spread the idea that literature is not just some course you need to pass in high school, but it is a way for us to be creative, learn social skills, learn how to react to situations, and it can also teach us how to be empathetic.

What are you most excited about for the future of the Pioneer Scholars?

I am excited to learn with my cohort, as well as debate about certain topics with them. It is interesting to hear a group of different points of views. I also look forward to all the events we will be attending together.

Looking ahead, what kind of impact do you hope to have after graduation?

I hope to use the skills I learned from my classes, but also from those around me to leave a positive impact on people while teaching, and in everyday life.
