What is a big question that you think the liberal arts help us to explore?

How can insights from different fields—science, art, philosophy and history, etc.—help us truly understand what it means to be human?

What is one favorite quote or idea of yours from any class you've taken in the foundational core?

The idea that modern political conservatism stems from classical liberalism. It’s a simple yet shocking concept to visualize in such a polarized modern world. Studying this concept and the evolution and development of these political philosophies last semester was truly an amazing experience.

How do you hope your studies will help you make a positive impact in your community?

I’ve yet to focus on a particular concentration such as marine life, plant life, or medicinal and pharmaceutical, and continue to research the path I’ll take and the field in which I’ll make the most impact. As I continue to explore, I hope to find what area I can leave my indelible mark on for years to come.

What are you most excited about for the future of the Pioneer Scholars?

It has been astounding to see the many personalities, characteristics and interests of my fellow Pioneers scholars and how those varied outlooks inform debates about moral and theological dilemmas. I am excited to bring these ideas out of the classroom and potentially create a collective analysis to show how a major moral dilemma is seen from so many unique perspectives.

Looking ahead, what kind of impact do you hope to have after graduation?

To not only educate future generations on the relevance and purpose behind the seemingly inane chemical foundations of nature and life but also develop an institution in which these ideas can be researched and studied on a grander scale!
