The University remains committed to addressing incidents of sexual misconduct through its established policies, including the Title IX Formal Grievance Policy, the Student Code of Conduct, and the Employee Handbook. Additionally, the University dedicates significant time and resources to coordinating supportive measures for both students and employees, including in cases where the misconduct is non-affiliated with the University. The tables provided offer insight into our reports and responses for 2023. Our narrative below expands on that data.
The University received a total of 33 reports of sexual assault. Of those reports, 11 had no opportunity for a SHU disciplinary case as the respondent was non-SHU affiliated and 14 of the remaining complainants declined disciplinary action or did not respond to outreach, and the University determined to not move forward without the complainant’s filing. Another 4 of the reports were either anonymous or lacking information, preventing the University from moving forward. Of the remaining 4 reports, 1 respondent was found responsible, expelled from campus housing and received a suspension. 2 respondents were found not responsible, and the remaining case was resolved informally.
The University received a total of 17 reports of stalking. Of those reports, 2 had no opportunity for a SHU disciplinary case as the respondent was non-SHU affiliated and 12 of the remaining complainants declined disciplinary action or did not respond to outreach, and the University determined to not move forward without the complainant’s filing. One of the reports was either anonymous or lacking information, preventing the University from moving forward. Of the remaining 2 reports, 1 case was resolved informally and the “other” case is still in progress.
The University received a total of 8 reports of Intimate Partner Violence. Of those reports, 1 had no opportunity for a SHU disciplinary case as the respondent was non-SHU affiliated and 4 of the remaining complainants declined disciplinary action or did not respond to outreach, and the University determined to not move forward without the complainant’s filing. One of the reports was either anonymous or lacking information, preventing the University from moving forward. Of the remaining 2 reports, 1 was resolved informally and 1 is in the informal resolution process currently.
All complainants involved in the report were provided with information regarding supportive measures, resources and options that were available to them through the Office of Title IX following the report’s receipt in Title IX. This includes individuals whose cases could not be resolved through the Office of Title IX. Further, respondents involved in a formal or informal resolution processes were offered the same supportive measures.
