Sacred Heart University is committed to the highest standards of humane, ethical and responsible treatment and care of animals used in teaching and research.
The University’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is responsible for reviewing all proposals for research involving live vertebrate animal subjects. The IACUC ensures that use of animals is justified and that research protocols are conducted in full compliance with University policies and any applicable federal and state regulations. In addition, faculty must comply with the ethical standards established by the major professional organization in one's discipline for such work. The IACUC also provides oversight to ensure that species-appropriate care and housing conditions are provided and that research is conducted in a secured and safe environment.
