Thank you for your interest in transferring to Sacred Heart University. Below you will find more information that will help guide you through the transfer process from start to finish. If you have any questions as you are working through the admission process, feel free to reach out to one of our transfer counselors.

Quick info about being a Transfer student
Who is considered a transfer student? Any student that has taken college credit after high school graduation
Are there a minimum number of credits I need to have in order to transfer? No, there is no minimum number of credits that you have to have to transfer in. The maximum is 66 credits from a two-year school and 90 credits from a four-year school.
What if I have previously been enrolled at SHU? If you have previously been enrolled as a SHU student, left to take classes at another school, and are looking to come back to SHU you are considered a transfer student.

Application Deadlines

Our priority deadlines are in place to ensure we have enough time to get you back financial aid information along with a credit evaluation, if applicable.

Fall 2018

Priority application deadline is May 1st

Spring 2019

Priority application deadline is December 1st

All applications that are submitted after the deadline will be reviewed on an individual basis depending on space available. If you would like to contact an admission counselor before you apply, feel free to do so.

Nursing Transfer Students

The Sacred Heart traditional BSN program is not a transfer friendly major. We will not be taking applications for the Traditional BSN program.

We have created a new partnership with St. Vincent's College in Bridgeport, CT. You can receive your RN degree at St. Vincent's College and then transfer to SHU for our online only RN to BSN degree. Please contact the St. Vincent's College admissions office to learn more (475-210-5516). If you already have the RN degree, please call (877-791-7181) to learn more about applying for the online RN to BSN degree.

This is all the information we can provide at this time about our traditional BSN degree. Any applications will be withdrawn at this time. 

Visiting Students

 

If you are a student looking to take classes and are not working towards a Sacred Heart degree you are considered a visiting student. For more information, fill out this Visiting Student Form.

Once you have created your account via the Visiting Student Form above, you will receive a confirmation with the part time undergraduate registration form attached to it. Completely fill out both sides of this form and fax back to 203-365-4458 or scan and email to pitchera@sacredheart.edu.

Credit Evaluations

Your credit evaluation will be completed by our Registrar’s Office after you are accepted to the University. The credit evaluation will be mailed or emailed to you once it is completed. These credits will be put on your official transcript at Sacred Heart once all official final college transcripts have been received and you have registered for classes.

A maximum of sixty-six (66) credits may be applied to a baccalaureate degree from a two-year college and a maximum of ninety (90) credits may be applied from a four-year college or university. The overall number of courses needed for a degree may exceed 120 credits.

If you’ve already earned 60 credits or more at another institution, we will waive our common core. *CIT 202 Seminar will not be waived.

If there is a discrepancy with how a course transfers, a syllabus must be submitted in order to re-review the course.

Financial Aid

Once you are accepted into Sacred Heart University, go to SHUawards. To activate your account, enter your seven-digit Student ID number found at the top of your acceptance letter and follow the prompts to create your PIN. This will allow you to monitor your award, review required information, and pending documents or forms.
