Federal Direct Stafford Loan Subsidized Program Students who have demonstrated financial need beyond what financial aid covers are eligible to borrow under this program. The government will pay all interest during the in-school period, and principal repayment is not required while the student is in school.

Aggregate Limit: $23,000

Federal Direct Stafford Loan Unsubsidized Program Students who do not have demonstrated need may borrow under this program. Interest will be paid by the borrower while borrower is in school. However, students may opt to defer payment until they leave school.

Dependent students are eligible for an additional $2,000.

Independent students are eligible for an additional:
$6k - years 1 & 2
$7k - years 3 & 4

Aggregate Limit for dependent students: $8,000. 

Aggregate Limit for independent students: $34,500.

Federal Direct Parent Loan Program The federally sponsored Parent PLUS loan is a low interest student loan for parents of dependent undergraduate students. With a Parent PLUS Loan, families can fund the entire cost of a child's education (less other financial aid). May borrow up to the cost of attendance less other financial aid.
