Graduate Assistant for Counselor Education

The graduate assistant for counselor education provides administrative and project support to students and the counselor education department in areas related to clinical placements, clinical documentation, assessment activities, curriculum-related projects, and accreditation requirements. Working under the supervision of a designated supervisor, the graduate assistant assists with assigned projects and tasks that support student success, departmental operations, assessment activities, curriculum-related projects, and accreditation requirements. The position supports departmental priorities and initiatives.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Placement & Student Support
  • Assist students with the completion and submission of practicum and internship applications, site documentation, supervisor paperwork, and other clinical placement requirements.
  • Support clinical placement documentation processes through the organization of student records, forms, and required documentation.
  • Respond to student inquiries regarding clinical placement requirements, deadlines, forms, and program expectations.
  • Assist with the preparation and organization of records related to practicum, internship, and clinical supervision experiences.
  • Support faculty efforts related to field experience documentation, clinical supervision records, and student placement requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of materials and resources used for student onboarding, orientation, and clinical placement processes.
  • Assist with data entry, document collection, spreadsheet updates, and record organization associated with student clinical experiences and program requirements.
  • Support the collection and organization of documentation required for clinical placements, site approvals, and supervisor qualifications.
Assessment, Accreditation & Curriculum Support
  • Assist with the collection, organization, and entry of assessment data and supporting documentation.
  • Support departmental assessment projects through data entry, document organization, spreadsheet updates, and record preparation.
  • Assist with auditing assessment plans and related documentation to identify completed and outstanding items.
  • Support the tracking of assessment, accreditation, and curriculum-related projects through the preparation and updating of spreadsheets and other tracking tools.
  • Assist with the organization and preparation of documentation related to CACREP and CAEP accreditation requirements.
  • Support syllabus revision and curriculum-related projects through document preparation, formatting, organization, and recordkeeping.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, tables, spreadsheets, meeting materials, and other supporting documents.
  • Complete administrative and project-based tasks related to assessment, accreditation, and departmental initiatives as assigned.
Departmental Support
  • Complete projects and assignments designated by the department supervisor and in support of departmental faculty and initiatives.
  • Provide administrative, clerical, and project support for departmental initiatives as assigned.
  • Assist with departmental events, meetings, workshops, and student engagement activities.
  • Prepare communications, resource materials, presentations, and other documents in support of departmental activities.
  • Perform other duties that support the mission of the Counselor Education Department and the Farrington College of Education & Human Development.

Unusual Working Conditions

Reporting to the director of student success, planning & retention, the graduate assistant (GA) serves an adviser and academic success coach. The GA applies student development theory, learning theory, and effective coaching techniques in working with students.

  • Part-time (20 hours/week)
  • Compensation: $12,600
  • Academic Program Preferred: Higher Education & Student Affairs, Education, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling or other related field

  • Demonstrate professionalism, responsibility, punctuality, and academic integrity

Unavailable Position

Graduate Assistant for Ed.D. Program

The primary purpose of this position is to provide academic support and leadership to candidates in the Ed.D. Program at the Farrington College of Education & Human Development. A secondary purpose, is to provide research, administrative and other support to faculty members associated with the Ed.D. program.

There are two part-time GA positions available, although the program director may hire a different number and adjust the compensation accordingly.

  • Part-Time: 10 hours/week for 15 weeks in both the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters (total of 300 hours)
  • Compensation: The stipend is $30/hour for a total compensation of 
    $9,000
  • Location: This position does not require an on-campus presence. The GA can accomplish all of the position responsibilities remotely.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as a mentor to doctoral candidates in individual, small group or full cohort settings
  • Schedule meetings with all individual doctoral students at least twice per semester, proactively reaching out to every student to schedule these meetings
  • Proactively reach out to instructors each semester to tailor support to the specific needs of the students in each course
  • Serve as a liaison between doctoral students and the program director
  • Provide leadership to initiatives related to the Ed.D. program (for example, student satisfaction surveys, conferences/special events)
  • Provide feedback to the Ed.D. program director on improvements to the Ed.D. program;
  • Provide research support for faculty in the doctoral program as approved by the program 
    director
  • As needed, provide professional learning for doctoral students (e.g., Zotero training, dissertation overview)
  • Complete any other related duties that the program director may assign

Knowledge & Skills Needed

  • Have successfully completed one year of the Doctor of Educational Leadership program
  • Have demonstrated proficiency in writing and research at the doctoral level, as evidenced by their successful completion of two years of coursework in the Ed.D. program.
