The John F. Welch College of Business offers a BS/MBA program which allows a student to obtain a BS degree and an MBA in 5 years, rather than the six or more years normally required. The compelling reason to consider this educational option is that the business world continues to be a dynamic but competitive place; more and more corporations are requiring an MBA for even entry level positions or are deferring employment start dates so that new employees can complete their graduate work prior to starting employment.
The Sacred Heart University MBA program places a strong emphasis on the application of business theory to the realities of the business world. This is done with an integrated core curriculum taught in a “business process” approach to develop cross-functional management skills to bridge finance, operations, marketing, and accounting. We are able to deliver this with a faculty that combines substantial business experience with their academic training. Moreover, the faculty’s dedication to teaching is second to none.
The BS/MBA program is ideally suited for undergraduates who wish to complete the MBA early in their business careers.
A minimum of 156 credits are required to receive both degrees. Of this total, 120 are the undergraduate level. They include core courses and business-related courses. At the graduate level, the minimum number of credits is 36; 27 are program requirements and 9 are electives.
- A personal statement of interest in and qualifications for the BS/MBA program
- Two letters of recommendation
- A GPA of at least 3.0
- A GMAT score of 500 or better
Course Planning and Advisement
Students who are considering the BS/MBA program should speak to their academic advisors. Appropriate course planning at the undergraduate level will not reduce the total number of credits required but can result in the opportunity to take more elective courses.
