Sexual Abuse and the Church: A Conversation in the Wake of Recent Revelations
The Human Journey Colloquia Series presents Sexual Abuse and the Church: A Conversation in the Wake of Recent Revelations on Wednesday, September 19, at 2 p.m. in University Commons. The combined impact of the Pennsylvania grand jury report about sexual abuse and the revelations concerning former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick have shaken the Catholic Church in the United States. SHU President John J. Petillo’s “Statement of Concern and Vision for the Church and the Academy” offers us an opportunity to stand in solidarity as a University community. Join us for an opportunity to engage in conversation, ask questions and reflect upon this issue. Professor Dan Rober of Catholic Studies will moderate and Michael W. Higgins, Distinguished Professor of Catholic Thought, and Catholic Studies Professors Caitlin Merritt and Jennifer Reek will be the featured panelists . Free and open to the public.
