Theatre Arts Program Presents Jesus Christ Superstar

News Story: March 7, 2017

The Theatre Arts Program (TAP) at Sacred Heart University presents a re-imagined version of Jesus Christ Superstar, the smash Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical and international hit.

Performances are appropriately scheduled on Palm Sunday weekend, beginning Thursday, April 6, and continuing Friday, April 7, and Saturday, April 8, at 8 p.m., with a matinee scheduled on Sunday, April 9, at 3 p.m. on stage at the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts, Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Ave., Fairfield, Conn.

When Superstar opened on Broadway in 1971, audiences and critics soon realized lyricist Tim Rice and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber had added a new dimension to musical theater: the rock opera. A triumph for the uncharacteristic blend of rock, heavy metal and theatrical pop, Jesus Christ Superstar offers a combination of powerful, unforgettable music and the gut-wrenching emotion of the greatest story ever told. This re-imagined version takes place in modern times, because the account is not only history, but a living, meaningful and vibrant story for all ages.

Principal actors in Jesus Christ Superstar are: Lauren Celentano (Mary Magdalene), Alex DeChino (Caiaphas), Zachary Lane (Pontius Pilate), Henley Solomon (Judas Iscariot), Bradly Taylor (King Herod), Devin Towne (Jesus Christ) and Mike Villanueva (Simon).

The ensemble includes: Kevin Carlson, Allison Courtemanche, Nicole D’Amore, Jenna DiBlanda, Jake Doble, Olivia Druckrey, Rachel Dufresne, Chris Faccenda, Grace Falvey, Eddie Feeley, Melissa Ferlo, Jamie FitzGerald, Leela Gallucci, Julia Gatto, Bobby Gestrich, Matthew Henshaw, Alexandra Hogan, Katherine Horne, Allison Imhoff, Alexandra Kostis, Minas Kostis, Jenna Larson, Denis McNamara, Dan Murphy, Jordan Norkus, Courtney O’Shea, Maria Ogundolani, Danielle Paradis, Andrew Patino, Nick Patino, Alex Reyes, Taylor Samuel, Emily Shea, Lucas Sousa-Ross, Serginho Valcourt, Julia Vezza and Justin Weigel.

The Theatre Arts Program comprises innovative and multi-talented pre-professional students dedicated to creating high-quality theatrical productions at Sacred Heart University.

Jesus Christ Superstar is staged by Jerry Goehring, artistic director of the Theatre Arts department and executive director, Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts, and choreographed by Simone DePaolo with musical direction by Leo P. Carusone.
