Serafino Awarded the CSTA Excellence in Elementary School Science Teaching Award

The Connecticut Science Teacher Association announced recently that Sean Serafino ’04, MAT ’05, Sacred Heart University alumnus and adjunct professor, has been selected to receive the Excellence in Elementary School Science Teaching Award. Serafino is a third grade teacher at Monroe Elementary School.

Serafino has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master's in elementary education and a 6th year certificate in science leadership. He is a regular attendee at state and national science teacher’s conferences and works with his district coordinator and science coordinator to review and modify curricula-based assessment results.

“In my years of education, one person who will always stand out in my mind is Sean Serafino,” said Bonnie Maur, a professor in the Isabelle Farrington College of Education. She added that his “drive, passion, perseverance and consistency” are the hallmarks of a first-class teacher.

The award was presented at the Association’s banquet on May 4 at the New Haven Lawn Club.
