Sacred Heart University’s 27th annual Discovery Gala raised more than $750,000 for student scholarship programs—the highest amount the event has raised to date.

More than 300 people attended, with community members joining SHU friends and supporters at the Linda E. McMahon Commons for the southern hospitality-themed soirée.

The number of sponsors this year broke a record as well, with significant support coming from the gala’s honoree, Anthony Scaramucci, co-managing partner and founder of SkyBridge Capital investment firm and host of Wall Street Week.

The evening began with southern fare, including a popular bourbon bar. Guests met student scholars, who benefit from SHU’s scholarship programs, and then moved on to SHU’s Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts for an award ceremony and a concert by Grammy Award-winning musician Bruce Hornsby. The pianist played to a full theater and received a standing ovation at the end of his performance.

“We are thrilled with the support we’ve received from this year’s gala,” said William A. Reidy, vice president of University Advancement. “It’s wonderful that so many people recognize the importance of a SHU education and want to donate. Without our scholarship programs, many students might not be able to afford college. We are grateful for the generosity of our donors.”

Reidy said the gala has raised millions of dollars for student financial aid over nearly three decades.
