Sacred Heart University Recognized as a College of Distinction

News Story: August 25, 2016

Sacred Heart University’s excellence in engagement, teaching, community involvement and outcomes has earned it recognition as a 2016-2017 College of Distinction. The annual process to select the nation’s Colleges of Distinction also includes a review of each institution’s freshman experience, as well as its general education program, strategic plan, and alumni success and satisfaction measures. This is the third time SHU has received this accolade.

“A truly great school must emphasize core competencies such as critical thinking, writing, oral communication, research and global perspective,” wrote Wes Creel, founder of Colleges of Distinction, in a letter to the University. “They must also offer dynamic, out-of-classroom learning, intensive study-abroad programs and other experiential learning opportunities. Colleges of Distinction’s goal is to find schools, such as Sacred Heart University, that provide these types of high-impact practices.”

University President John J. Petillo welcomed the news. “We are pleased to be recognized by Colleges of Distinction for another year and for its confidence that Sacred Heart is a great place for students to learn, grow and succeed,” he said.
