4th Annual SHU Media Exchange to Focus on Women and Minorities in Media

News Story: May 29, 2015

The graduate students from Sacred Heart University’s Masters in Communication program will host the 4th annual SHU Media Exchange on Thursday, June 18, 2015. This year’s SHU Media Exchange will connect students with professionals and serve as a platform for discussion on the growing media industry where women and minorities are breaking barriers. The free event begins with a reception at 6 p.m. offering food, drinks, and tours around the newly constructed Frank and Marisa Martire Business & Communications Center, followed by a panel discussion at 7 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from professionals who have achieved successful careers in the media industry. The moderator for the event is American television news anchor, reporter, and talk show host, Faith Daniels. Daniels will moderate a panel discussion focusing on the growth of women and minorities in the media. The distinguished panelists include Anita Ford Saunders, Director of Marketing Communications at United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut; Ana Ceppi, Vice President of Business Development at Univision Communications; and Rob King, Senior Vice President of SportsCenter and News at ESPN.

The SHU Media Exchange is a valuable opportunity for MACOMM students to discuss their interests in the media industry and network with professionals. “We received significant input from industry executives and practitioners while we were designing the MACOMM curriculum, and the SHU Media Exchange continues that dialogue while also providing our students with the opportunity to network and join the conversation,” said James Castonguay, Director of the MACOMM program. The Media Exchange is part of the MACOMM curriculum and is produced entirely by the students in the program.
