Professor Roney Elected Treasurer of the New England Chapter of the ACIS

John B. Roney, professor of Western European history at Sacred Heart University, was elected treasurer of the New England Chapter of the American Conference of Irish Studies at a meeting held this fall at the University of New Haven.

The American Conference for Irish Studies is a multidisciplinary scholarly organization with approximately 800 members in the United States, Ireland, Canada and other countries around the world, according to its website. Each spring, the ACIS holds a national conference attended by 300 to 400 people from the academic community and the general public. Each fall, meetings are held in the New England, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and Western regions; the Southern regional takes place in the winter.

Prior to coming to SHU, Roney taught at Redeemer University College and Wilfrid Lauier University, Ontario. Roney is faculty adviser for the Celtic Club and men’s ice hockey team. He is also a member of the American Historical Association, the American Society of Church History, the Conference on Faith and History (past executive officer), Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society and Phi Alpha Theta Honors Society.
