25th Annual Discovery Awards and Scholarship Gala Planned

The Beach Boys

News Story: March 19, 2014

Sacred Heart University will host its 25th Annual Discovery Awards and Scholarship Gala on Saturday, April 12. Over the past two decades, SHU’s Discovery Gala has raised millions of dollars for student financial aid. Last year, the event raised more than $530,000 for Sacred Heart’s scholarship programs.

With the $500 ticket price including a performance by the legendary Beach Boys, the theme of the Gala gives a nod to the seashore. This year’s Gala also celebrates Sacred Heart’s 50th anniversary and the hundreds of scholarship students who have benefited from the Discovery Gala during the past 25 years. Guests will begin the evening at the Linda E. McMahon Commons where they will be served fine food and cocktails. Add that to good company and wonderful entertainment, and you have the recipe for a memorable evening.

Following the cocktail party, attendees will move to the newly renovated Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts where the party will continue. Led by rock’s quintessential front man, Mike Love, the Beach Boys are also celebrating a 50th anniversary—that of making foot-tapping, soul-stirring music. They will perform such favorites as Surfin’ USA, Surfer Girl, Good Vibrations, Help Me Rhonda and more.

Most importantly, the funds raised will once again provide an opportunity for students who might otherwise be unable to attend Sacred Heart. The cocktail reception begins at 6 p.m., and the Beach Boys concert starts at 8 p.m. To reserve your tickets or for more information, contact University Advancement at 203-365-4861 or

Tickets to the Beach Boys concert only can be purchased online here or by contacting the Edgerton Center box office at 203-371-7908.
