To the University Community:

It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that Dr. Ramzi N. Frangul, professor emeritus and long-time faculty in the Department of Economics and Finance, passed away on June 29 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. He is survived by his son Nadhim Frangul, an alumnus of Sacred Heart University.

Professor Frangul was the founding chair of the unified economics and finance department, the strength of which has been built upon bridging the theoretical and empirical foundations of economics and applied finance.  He was a masterful teacher, a great mentor and superb economist who touched so many lives. His pedagogy epitomized explicitness and precision, and was always supported with relevant real-life examples that helped students understand and appreciate the theoretical class material.  He received multiple awards for teaching excellence and published articles on monetary policy and financial institutions.

His colleagues immensely valued his high pedagogical standards and exemplary professional integrity.  Professor Frangul was a department chair when I arrived at Sacred Heart. It was a privilege to have him as a mentor, senior faculty colleague and a friend.

Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at Mountain Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Avenue in Bridgeport with the V. Rev. John Khoury of the Assyrian Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary (Paramus, New Jersey) officiating. The funeral procession will meet just inside the main gate located at the corner of North Avenue and Dewey Street at 10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Nadhim and the Frangul family.
