Grant from the Jones-Phelps Foundation Will Aid Music Scholars Program

News Story: March 25, 2013

Sacred Heart University is the recipient of a $3,000 grant presented by the Jones-Phelps Foundation for its Music Scholars program. The grant will help support the activities of the choir as a whole.

In past years, the grant has been used to provide supplemental student scholarships as well as support for expenses incurred by the choirs. This year, John Michniewicz, director of Choral Programs, has designated the funds to support the sacred music concert “How Can I Keep from Singing?” on March 23, 2013. The money will also be used to provide stipends to the choir’s section leaders, who keep track of attendance for their sections and serve as a resource to the choir as a whole.

“The grant funds received from The Cyrus W. and Amy F. Jones and Bessie D. Phelps Foundation provide crucial support towards the expenses of the concerts that are performed by the University Choirs, and we are most grateful for this generous support,” said Virginia Harris, executive director of Foundations & Grants.
