Sacred Heart University To Participate In Cfai University Recognition Program For Investment Management
Sacred Heart University’s bachelor’s degree in Finance and Investment Management program has been approved by the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFAI) to participate in its University Recognition Program. To earn this acceptance, the program had to incorporate at least 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and emphasize the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice within the program.
According to Lucjan T. Orlowski, professor of Economics and International Finance, and Department of Economics and Finance chairman for the University’s Jack Welch College of Business, this recognition reflects on our teaching excellence and underscores the quality and distinctiveness of the University’s finance curriculum.
The CFA Program, Orlowski explained, sets a standard for developing the skills, competence, ethics and integrity of financial analysts, portfolio managers, investment advisers and other investment professionals worldwide. It is widely considered the investment profession’s most rigorous credentialing program. Administered in English, the CFA curriculum and examinations are identical worldwide.
“This award results from a far-reaching collaborative effort involving our finance faculty. It also reaffirms our scholarly commitment to best practices and a thorough approach through both proven material and leading-edge practical applications. We are committed to demonstrating how the theories and lessons we’re teaching in the classroom can be used in the real world of finance, here in the United States and internationally,” Orlowski said.
Orlowski credits fellow departmental Professors Ralph Lim and Bridget Lyons with playing instrumental roles in guiding the department through the application process.
According to Lim, Sacred Heart’s program positions students to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, which has become the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world.
“We’re pleased and honored to have achieved this important recognition,” said Lim. “Entry into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program signals to potential students, employers and the marketplace that Sacred Heart’s curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and is well-suited to preparing students to sit for the three levels of CFA examinations. Students in the program will gain access to CFA Institute textbooks, journals, webcasts and other educational resources. This is another important step in our goal to provide a learning experience for our students that is strong, creative and closely linked to the real finance world.”
