News Story: September 12, 2012
SHU Also Ranks #14 on the “Best College Radio Station” List

“Sacred Heart University is one of the country’s best institutions for undergraduate education,” according to the nationally known education services company, The Princeton Review. The company features the school in the new 2013 edition of its annual college guide, The Best 377 Colleges (Random House / Princeton Review). SHU also ranked #14 on the “Best College Radio Station” list.

Only about 15% of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges, and three colleges outside the U.S.A., are profiled in The Princeton Review's flagship college guide. It includes detailed profiles of the colleges with rating scores for all schools in eight categories, plus ranking lists of the top 20 schools in the book in 62 categories based on The Princeton Review's surveys of students attending the colleges.

“We commend Sacred Heart University for its outstanding academics – one of the primary criteria for our selection of schools for the book. Our choices are based on institutional data we collect about schools, our visits to schools over the years, feedback we gather from students attending the schools and the opinions of our staff and our 30-member National College Counselor Advisory Board. We also work to keep a wide representation of colleges in the book by region, size, selectivity and character,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s senior vice president, publisher and author of The Best 377 Colleges.

Students surveyed stated that SHU uses its proximity to New York City to “provide students majoring in business, finance, media studies, etc., with tremendous opportunities” for internships.

Citing responses from students, the guide also indicates, “The surrounding towns provide amazing sites…for clinical experiences, so many members of SHU’s career-minded student body leave here with a solid experience under their belts to go along with the course knowledge.”

When addressing life on campus, the guide notes the University’s commitment to community service. “If you’re into community service and volunteering — and most students here are — you’ll be in your glory with the opportunities that are available for students.”

SHU’s listing in the Princeton Review guide points out a highlight in the admissions process at the University. “Admissions officers at Sacred Heart take the time to consider each applicant on his or her own merits. There’s no formula crunching here; applicants have ample opportunity to make the case why they belong here on their applications.”
