Sacred Heart University’s Alumni Executive Council was recently honored as a Company Partner of the Year by The WorkPlace, Inc. at an awards ceremony that honored individuals and organizations throughout Southwestern Connecticut who have contributed to workforce development. Held at the Downtown Cabaret Theatre in Bridgeport, Conn., the event recognized 116 individuals and organizations in 11 categories.

The Alumni Executive Council was nominated by Dress for Success for a clothing drive this past spring. Clothes were collected by council members at their own workplaces and at masses, athletic events and other activities on the SHU campus. “One of our members had done a drive for Dress for Success at her workplace, and she brought the idea to the Council. We love Dress for Success, because it is a comprehensive program for women who need employment. Not only does it help them with clothes for the interview, but it teaches skills in resume writing, interviewing and much more,” said Emily Rohman, interim director of Alumni Relations.

Rohman estimated that SHU collected close to two racks of clothing, including dresses, suits, shoes, purses and accessories. “It was nice to have the alumni recognized for their hard work. We try to do a couple of charity events a year, and our intention is to continue doing this drive each spring,” she said.

Last fall, the Alumni Executive Council worked with the student group – Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (S.T.A.T.) – on a collection for the troops. They collected eight or nine large boxes of items to send overseas, Rohman said.
