SHU to Host 21st Annual Pioneer Open for Scholarship Fund

News Story: May 1, 2010

Sacred Heart University’s 21st Annual Pioneer Open Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, June 7th at Rockrimmon Country Club in Stamford, Conn.  The event will be hosted by Event Co-chairs Larry Foley and Jim Morley, both of whom serve on the SHU Board of Trustees.

The Pioneer Open raises valuable scholarship funds for deserving SHU students. In the tournament’s history, more than $700,000 in direct scholarship assistance has been raised, which helps provide financial assistance to the majority of Sacred Heart University students. Nearly 90% of SHU students receive some form of financial assistance. Without it, college may not be a reality for many of them.

Additionally, the University has a Fairfield County Tuition-Free Plan for low income students. Full-time undergraduate students with a family income below $50,000, who are admitted from Fairfield County high schools, are provided a tuition-free education.

The tournament will begin with registration at 9:30 a.m., at which time the driving range and putting greens will be open. The shotgun start will begin at noon. The Open will conclude with a dinner, silent auction and awards presentation at 5:30 p.m.

One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the tournament directly support the University’s Scholarship Fund. Sponsorship opportunities are available.
